The weather in October should be pleasant after the long summer heat.

Downtown Venice is a nice place to walk around. There are restaurants and small shops etc.

Unless there is a specific event such as an art show etc. there really isn%26#39;t any daily ';street entertainment';.

You could stay at the Inn at the Beach or the Horse and Chaise Inn.

You didn%26#39;t mention a budget.

If you click on Hotels at the top of this page, you can read reviews.

(Be sure you look at the subheadings for B%26amp;Bs and Other Lodging.)

There are some nice spots for lunch/dinner in the area.

I enjoy the food at Luna and the Crow%26#39;s Nest to name 2..

Just checked posts for our area and saw yours. Go to Venicemainstreet.com for info on what might be happening when you are here. It%26#39;s a pretty laid-back kind of retirement area so there%26#39;s not a lot going on. But the beaches are great and the shopping area is cute. We live here and have some places to eat if you%26#39;re interested. I think Luna%26#39;s was mentioned--awesome Italian. Althea%26#39;s on Miami has great food, no ambiance to speak of but the people are nice. Patches for breakfast a little bit away. Just down the way is Bogey%26#39;s, your typical sports bar but they have great burgers and wings. Mama Leone%26#39;s and Peaches for breakfast are out on Jacaranda and Venice.

my dughter and son in law live in Venice and we have visited there a few times since they married in 05--Venice is not a happening town but for some of us that is its charm...

last time we were there we went to a restaurant that was new to our daughter and us--a seafood place whose rep was good according to my daughter--it ws just north of downtown Venice off a side street--we were not impressed with the food or the service (and we know that Venice is not a glam place except for the Crow%26#39;s Nest--so we weren%26#39;t expecting that--food was expensive and just not that good but can%26#39;t rmember the name of the place...

last time we also were there there was a new sandwich shop in a little strip center close to Pine View School where our daughter teaches--we got some sandwiches there that were good...we also ate at the restaurant out at the Venice airport (the 44th aero sqd) --kind of a Tiki bar theme--it was good == not too crowded--my daughter says lots of small planes fly into Venice to eat there or at Sharkey%26#39;s which is not too far away...

we like Sharkey%26#39;s too though in the season it is very crowded and their food is not as good as during a quieter time of year--

Mi Pueblo, the mexican place, I don%26#39;t care for but my daughter and sil like it--of course it is like the only Mexican food place around so a TX girl has to make allowances to get her guacamole and margaritas...

I like Carney%26#39;s on the Sq--most of the meals we have eaten there have been consistently good--although it is older and looks a little shabby inside...

James is a good place for breakfast but gets crowded and you can%26#39;t hurry the service...

there is older hotel that is on the square and some B/B that are supposedly close to downtown area but we have not stayed there--

We have stayed at Inn on the Beach--not that close to the Sq, at the Hampton, and at the Holiday Inn on 41N--like Inn on the Beach but rooms are expensive because of location...parking is little iffy when they are crowded...staff are uniformly nice--pool is small especially when you have some active younger children in it...

Hampton is ok--beds can be hard and it is chain--their breakfast area is always overwhelmed and very noisy because lots of people eat the ';free'; breakfast-----pool is in middle of hotel%26#39;s complex--opens off lobby--is medium large but does not get lot of sun because of how the floors shade it...area not that well tended...

last March when we were there two cars in parking lot were broken in sometime during night during ut stay--from hearing the people complain about the hotel;s reaction sees that it is not uncommon--there are notices about removing all your stuff from cars and that the hotel is not responsible--lighting in lot is not that great and it is right off busy highway so would be easy to see/smash/grab/escape...

did not care for the night we spent at the Holiday Inn about 4 years ago--we had a ground floor room opening into the rear parking lot--it was older, dated and not that clean--I was really kind of worried about someone trying to break into the room...lot was not well lit and did not feel very ';protected';--there are rooms that open off interiour hallways in main bldg and they might be cleaner/newer and would certainly feel safer...

we are going back in November and think I wil ask my daughter about the Island Breeze which is an independent motel close to the downtown area...
