Orlando to Key west down atlantic coast 5 day tour ?

We (myself and the wife and 2 kids 8 + 14) are planning to drive from orlando international down to key west stopping off on the way .

we are arriving 10th december 2007 and are in florida until christmas- we have a townhouse booked from the 18th in orlando.so we thought we would do a bit of exploring down the keys/ everglades for the first week of our trip. our wish list obviously includes visiting Miami ,an airboat ride in the glades and a boat trip down the keys but we are open to any suggestions.

You might want to drive Route A1A along the coast from Palm Beach down to Miami Beach or just pick sections that appeal to you. I would recommend driving the complete way from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami Beach. I like the state park at Dania (just south of Ft. Lauderdale) John Q. Lloyd State Park

Besides the Beach at Miami Beach, I find looking at the Art-Deco styled buildings interesting.

Some poeple like to visit Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas, out from Key West. I have never made it here, but would like to someday.

You should research the Miami %26amp; the Florida Keys forums and decide what you want to do %26amp; see. Donna has a good idea, the coast along the FLL to Miami is a nice drive. Take the turnpike from Orlando and exit to the beaches in either West Palm or Ft. Lauderdale. After you visit Miami %26amp; the Everglades then you should take at least 2 days in the Keys as there is much to see %26amp; do there.

It sounds like you have a pretty good plan already.
