Bar hopping Intineraries

After a relaxing day at the pool, hubby and I like to wonder out for a few cocktails at around 4pm. Please share your tried and true routines.

Bar hopping Intineraries

From what point on the island are you starting?? (Frankly, you just can%26#39;t go wrong following your nose. You%26#39;ll find places you like and those that you don%26#39;t. ... Do NOT be afraid to step off Duval and try some of the places around the bight. You%26#39;ll thank your feet for taking you there.)

Bar hopping Intineraries

Here is a good place to start. Alonzo%26#39;s Oyster Bar has half price appetizers during happy hour and drink specials. 7 days a week , 4pm 鈥?6:30.

Start at The Chart Room and have Valerie make you a rum punch. Trouble is you might like it so much there that you may wind up spending a loooong time.

We seldom have an itinerary when bar hopping in KW. Just head out in what ever direction suits your mood and let rour ears and eyes guide us. If you see or hear something interesting going on then stop for a drink or two and then head out for the next one. Keep an open mind and you never know where you%26#39;ll end up.

You could also buy (or photograph) one of those %26#39;bars of KW%26#39; t-shirts and try to hit them all. If you do that it is a good idea to write your name, hotel, and room number somewhere on your body in sharpie. That way you can get rolled home at the end of the night :)

As has already been stated, the best plans when visiting Key West is no plans at all.

This is a ';do what you want to do when you want to do it'; kind of place.

ddpepper72 you couldnt h ave said it better about writing your name hotel name and room number on your body. your room key doesnt have the room number on and one night i forgot which room i was in lol very embarrassing

Echo. The trip reports that include no set agenda seem to present the best experiences. KW is a reactionary destination--not necessarily a scheduled daily vacation thing. Follow your nose!

While I didn%26#39;t have a ';set in stone'; agenda, we did have some places we really wanted to see.

Try Dante%26#39;s, it%26#39;s a pool bar on upper Caroline, then work your way down. Schooner Wharf, Turtle Kralls, slide over to Front St, to Island Dogs, Pat Croce%26#39;s Rum Barrel and Two Friends.

Finnegan%26#39;s Wake is a little off the beaten path at Grinnell and James...just a short block off Caroline, but worth the trip. Naturally, they have Smithwicks (pronounced smiddick%26#39;s) and great wings. Look for Matthew behind the bar. Claims to be the only bartender on the island who can discuss transendentalism in depth.

Margaritaville is one of those places which we tourists like to try. It%26#39;s an okay, albeit overpriced bar. Food is adequate...and way overpriced. We used to go there just once a trip just to do it. Not even a stop for a beer this time.

Jack Flats is on Duval, right across from Margaritaville. Great for watching sports. Better food, larger portions (way too large) and reasonable prices. Doug and Matt will take care of you at the bar. If this Cubs game ever ends, I%26#39;m headed there to watch the Bears.

The Rum Barrel has been mentioned as a happy hour spot. John and Murph...but Casey and Kristy are easy on the eyes.

Alonzo%26#39;s at the seaport is good for happy hour with 1/2 price drinks and some appetizers 1/2 price. I dunno, I like the ambiance sitting outside relaxing, the food is excellent, but there%26#39;s just an ';edge'; that I don%26#39;t feel there...don%26#39;t feel like the wait staff is happy to work there.

Kelly%26#39;s has happy hour. Caroline and Whitehead. Spectacular wings, if you like them breaded. That%26#39;s a completely different discussion. I prefer them naked, but ';wings is wings.'; Doug mixes a killer 1/2 price margarita.

Mangoe%26#39;s is down Duval. Behind the bar, TK is the man!

Gonna have wheels? Go to Stock Island to Hogfish Bar %26amp; Grill. Beer%26#39;s ice cold and the food is delicious. I had the hogfish sammich, the wife had lobster rolls. Maybe do that one for lunch tomorrow on the way back to the real world.

If you hit the Bull (Duval %26amp; Caroline) early enough in the afternoon, Yankee Jack will be on the keyboard. Farther up the street, Rick%26#39;s, Irish Kevin%26#39;s, and the Lazy Gecko are okay for a drink.

Enough of this...I need a beer!

our newbie plan - we are going to rent bikes and ride all over old town and make notes in my diary the second day we are there. i want to see all the bars first hand before we plant our butts. ';research on wheels'; will be our theme.
