pensacola beach vs panama city beach?

just looking for a quiter beach, soft sand, and clearest water of the two...would be going in september

thanks!

pensacola beach vs panama city beach?

Honestly in September both will be quiet. I like Pensacola and have stayed there a few times. For me, PCB is better unless it is spring break, then it s**ks.

pensacola beach vs panama city beach?

Check out the beaches of South Walton - between Panama City and Destin on Scenic Hwy. 30a. The beaches are fantastic. We always rent a cottage or house (depending on the size of our party) and like Inlet Beach and Seacrest Beach. The coastal villages are quaint with unique shops and restaurants.

The websites we use are:

www.a1vacations.com

http://www.vacationrentaldirect.com/

Not sure if the Pensacola beaches have recovered from the hurricanes several years ago.

ok thanks :)

will check out those sites too! a cottage on the beach sounds great!

If you haven%26#39;t gone yet, PCB is quieter on the beach and water is perfectly clear! Got back yesterday. We are regulars at P%26#39;cola and love it as well, but this time PCB was amazing. Rates are better there too right now.

Hey jsg96-

We just got back from PCB and it was great. Very quiet, no traffic, and beautiful clear water. We have been several times before, but this trip was the best so far. I will definitely be going back in September next year.

I just posted a trip report if you want to check it out.

Here%26#39;s a link...

OK... just asking

Wondering if there are any Starbucks in any part of DisneyWorld or any coffee shops that are compairable that we could try...just used to Starbucks but willing to try another coffee shop for our morning java...Thanks again

OK... just asking

No Starbucks in Disney as far as I remember. I usually find my coffee at the folowing locations:

Downtown Disney-Ghiradelli%26#39;s- (Cafe Mocha) or Earl of Sandwich-(Kona coffee)

Magic Kingdom- Main Street Bake shop

MGM- Starring Rolls

Animal Kingdom- Kusafari Coffee Shop

Epot- Fountain View Cafe-(Cafe Mocha)

OK... just asking

There is one at Citywalk

I looked at allears, and this is Anita Answer%26#39;s take on it. Hope it helps...

http://allearsnet.com/aa/aa042307.htm#ques5

Picabu at the Dolphin serves Starbucks, but only the plain stuff -- nothing fancy. I think most, if not all of the Swan and Dolphin%26#39;s restaurants serve Starbucks, by the way.

There are stand-alone coffee kiosks in the parks that are not run by Disney, and they don%26#39;t use Nescafe. The coffee is not the best I%26#39;ve ever had, but it beats the alternative.

We were talking about this earlier. From the country that gave us exotic coffees with shots and double skinny wotsits, there is a dearth of speciality coffees available in WDW, even a humble capuccino. Regular or decaf were the only two options available.

We found a capuccino at Ghiradellis which was extremely average but no chocolate on top which lost points.

THanks all...sounds like there are lots of coffee stands..so I won%26#39;t worry about it

no not disney but they have one at universal

can%26#39;t remember the name at the moment sorry virgin megastore in downtown disney do a pretty good latte

great Kona coffee in the Polynesian Resort hotel, right off the

resort monrail.

Why worry you%26#39;ve got Dunkin Donuts mate everybody knows that starbucks can%26#39;t live with DD or KrispyCreme

There is one Starbucks in the Premium Outlets, just minutes away from Downtown.

  • epcot - morocco

Anyone tried the moroccan food at epcot? Just wondered if it is good?

    epcot - morocco

We ate at Marrakesh in Morocco, at Epcot. It is a fairly big dining room. The food was Ok but not great. The atmosphere was quite good. There was a belly dancer who encouraged some children to join her in her dance. Good family entertainment. We considered it good value for money.

    epcot - morocco

excellent - thanks for the info !!

Well, I have to say that I just eat there some days ago, and my husband and I really liked it. I guess it depends on individual taste. It was also one of the biggest plates we found in counter service, I couldn%26#39;t finish it. The lamb was pretty good, and my kids loved their pizzas (I think it%26#39;s the only place that offers pizzas for kids, in counter services).

I like the pavillion too, I think it%26#39;s beautiful.

Maybe these reviews posted on www.allers.net can help you decide. I think the food is good, but unusual , at least compared to the usual American fare. If you are adventurous, you will probably enjoy it- if you family is ';just meat and potatoes';, it may be a bit too challenging. and exotic They do have some things that are ordinary ( especially on the kid%26#39;s menu) ,

    Orlando Airport Hotel

I am arriving on a 10:33 pm flight into the Orlando airport (MCO) October 27th. Any advice on a reasonably priced and clean hotel that offers shuttle service to/from the airport?

    Orlando Airport Hotel

This one must get asked on a daily basis!!!

If you are arriving at such a late hour, and bearing in mind if you LAND at 10.33pm, you might be out of baggage reclaim around 11pm? Is the Hyatt within your budget? Its right in the main terminal so no need to wait for a shuttle, get your bags, check in and go to bed!

    Orlando Airport Hotel

Crowne Plaza is a reasonable price, clean and offers free shuttle

Thank you Clubworldfan and peachyprice. The Hyatt sounds like a great hotel but too expensive. I%26#39;ll inquire about the Crowne Plaza.

Don%26#39;t know if its the cheapest but we always use the Embassy Suites at the airport. Clean, and offers free shuttle and cooked to order breakfast...

think you need to deal with this matter face to face.

Anyone can tell you anything over the phone. Once the receiver is down you will soon be forgotten about.

    Trust Me.

If I was in your situation I would have been in there office a few days ago. And if after 2 days I had not received my promised tickets I would be back in there.

They will soon get sick of seeing you.

You are cutting things fine and mj6 is right. This is the last thing you need.

Do you want me to ring my mate BIG DAVE. He can make this situation disappear over night? for a fee of course. (the last statement was a joke. Are was it)

they told me ';don%26#39;t worry we%26#39;ll sort you out with tix at the airport!'; can see it know, i%26#39;ll get to the airport and they%26#39;ll be like oh sorry there%26#39;s nothing in that name

    Hi

Broadway travel, i used this company two years ago for accomodation only in Florida and i must say the service was abysmal, they kept sending the wrong vouchers out ,wrong dates, wrong hotels, and every time i rang i was told i could only speak to the agent who took the booking and guess what? yes... it was his day off or he wasnt due for his shift until later.

The upshot is through perserverence, i finally got it sorted and had a great holiday, but ive never used them since, not just because of this episode, but because ive found a much cheaper company.

So i sympathise with you Andy and i hope to god you can get it sorted quickly, and then maybe you can relax and enjoy your holidays ....have a great time.

    ANDY

    Go into them.

I cant believe you are going to risk this.

I have just texted BIG DAVE. He is on standby.

Hope it all works out andy.

Just hope Virgin send our tickets on time in 4 weeks.

it%26#39;ll get sorted just can%26#39;t be bothered with the messing

spoke to them again, they are sending out accom vouchers and transfer vouchers.

but they have made tickets ';tickets on arrival'; looks like the stress will continue till around 8am on thursday

What airline are you flying with. Surely you can phone them to confirm your flight situation?

I agree - phone the airline if you can. I have no idea what ';tickets on arrival'; mean. It must be Muppetlish but it%26#39;s not English

why do we buy newspapers on hols

i cant understand why british people go on holiday to get away from it all .Yet the first thing they do in the morning is buy a british newspaper to see whats happening back home .It never reports good news just bad so why do we do it surely when were on holiday we dont miss home that much .I for one dont .i refuse to buy a british newspaper when on my hols.

why do we buy newspapers on hols

I have never bought a newspaper whilst on holiday. I don%26#39;t understand why people do it either. A bit of reading over breakfast? Personally if people by a paper whilst in Orlando you seriously haven%26#39;t planned your holiday properly.

why do we buy newspapers on hols

    Whats wrong with having information?

IT%26#39;s jus a time pass mate, no need to get all serious about it.

You may go on holiday to escape pressures and get away from it all. But me personally, i ain%26#39;t under that much stress at the moment so a holiday too me doesn%26#39;t mean i have to jus escape.

i hate not knowing whats going on at home not just the news but also the sport

when we go to brittany i can get radio 5 on the car radio and i always check the news and sport

I%26#39;m a bit of a news junkie. I always like to know what%26#39;s going on. When I%26#39;m on holiday I like to read the Mirror to see what%26#39;s going on. My husband%26#39;s ecstatic if he can get the Daily Record at Publix. I hate the idea that I%26#39;ve missed something. Plus I always like to read how cold it is back in London, lol.

In Barcelona last year, they had the Mirror on sale at one of their newstands for 4euros. I gave that a miss. There was nothing that couldn%26#39;t wait for me to get home to catch up on. Besides, I had Sky News at the hotel I was staying at. At the time the news was mainly about the terror alert at the various airports back home, so there wasn%26#39;t much else being reported on. I was very lucky in that I missed all that by one day. I had flown out on a Wednesday afternoon, and all the airports were on Red Alert by Thursday morning. Close shave or what?!

Saying all that, on the other hand when I%26#39;m home I sometimes watch Fox News International on Sky (I think Bill O%26#39;Reilly%26#39;s a hoot), or have a read of the Orlando Sentinel on-line to catch up with what%26#39;s going on in America/Orlando. Funnily enough I was home yesterday and was glued to the telly watching the bail hearing for OJ Simpson. Wasn%26#39;t he a silly boy?

PS. I forgot to mention, it sometimes is a good idea to buy a British paper in Orlando, as they have coupons for various shows and things such as themed dinners, if you%26#39;re into that sort of thing.

Whilst you can pick up yesterday%26#39;s papers, I don%26#39;t know about the others, but I do remember that the American version of the Mail and the Mirror is actually published in Orlando. I guess to cater to the large Brit population living there.

    I don%26#39;t.

Dont have time to read them, and dont want to.

Having said that I can remember buying a local one once, to see if their was any local events going on.

    hi

i only but the sundays paper for the football match reports, but ive got to buy sundays paper on the monday of course at walgreens,

odd to buy papers a day late though..

Idon%26#39;t think the papers are a day old. I%26#39;m sure the%26#39;re printed in Orlando on the same day as at home.

We always buy a paper when away. At home we%26#39;re always so busy with work and home that we don%26#39;t have time to read the paper.

It%26#39;s all just part of the holiday experience to sit and read the paper from front to back page without feeling guilty %26#39;cos the%26#39;res 101 other things to do!!!

Dazzlers, some papers are definitely a day old. I%26#39;ve bought and read day old papers from hotel lobbys and some shops. These are the ones that are delivered from overseas. It only seems to be the ones sold in large supermarkets that are printed in Orlando that are sold on the same day.

So it depends on where you buy. Obviously when we realised that we could get same day papers then we%26#39;d just get those.

Hey big bopper - I fully agree with you chum

I NEVER buy any of the UK papers, because I want to avoid all the doom and gloom ... and it works. It is amazing how much scare stories and negative rubbish fills our newspapers. Instead I buy the local papers to read about baseball and silly news stories and get tokens for discounts in such places as Sweet Tomatoes. They also only cost 25cents and if there are any offers or sales I feel well up to speed on things.

My advice on all sorts of levels is leave the Daily Mail etc where it is.

Isn%26#39;t it that Peter Kay thing - the first thing you look for is what the weather is like at home - absolute nonsense. Also you will get the football results soon enough especially if you can get Fox Soccer channel.

    Eating in Orlando

Hi everyone, Going to Orlando for the 1st time with wife and two kids (9 %26amp;14) in Feb 08. We are stopping in the Disney hotel All stars Sports I think. I was just wondering if you could recomend any good cheap places to eat, mainly breakfast and evening meal.

I don%26#39;t know who is more excited me or the kids!

    Eating in Orlando

    andy70618,

For breakfast there is a McDonalds you will drive past on the way to the resort at the intersection of Osceola Parkway. As to inexpensive places to eat dinner, get in your car and drive east on Osceola Parkway. Cross I-4. At the next major intersection make a right in front of the Gaylord Palms Hotel on to International Drive South. Take it to the end at 192. For about a mile in either direction are more chain restaurants than you could possibly take advantage of. Take your pick.

    CTR

    Eating in Orlando

I didn%26#39;t see that he is going to have a car.

Go to denny%26#39;s for your breakfast there great and they are everywhere, and for your evening meal try either golden coral or pondarosa or sizzlers they do buffets where you pay about $10 for adults and $7 for kids eat as much as you like steaks, pasta, chicken everything and loads of desserts love loved them when we went last year wde are going back nexy year, hope it helps.

If you%26#39;re not going to have a car, go to www.allearsnet.com and check out the dining options there on the Disney property and at the All Stars. Earl of Sandwich and McDonalds are definitely on the cheaper side at Downtown Disney, as well as Wolfgang Puck%26#39;s Express (which is separate from the main Wolfgang Puck complex). The All Star Cafe (at Disney%26#39;s Wide World of Sports, not at All Star Resorts) is comparatively lower priced than some other places. If you%26#39;re wanting to do sit down meals at the parks and at the resorts (outside of food court options, etc.) its best to make reservations as early as possible. There are menus and pictures for some places on the above website.

If you will have a car, you will have more options.

Thank you all for the info. I am having a car, was told better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

Any other tips would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Andy

If you have a car follow Cruising informatiom, but when you get to I-Drive and 192 I would turn left (192 East), most of the restaurants are going to be in that direction, if you go right (192 West) your%26#39;ll have to cross I-4 and the southern part of Disney before you get to all the restaurants about 2 Miles.

I definately second the vote for Golden Corral if you want a good value meal - the choice of food is great and there should be something for all the family. If you%26#39;re going to do a buffet I would go for GC over Ponderosa or Sizzler anytime. Ci Ci%26#39;s Pizza is (surprisingly!) a pizza %26amp; salad buffet that only costs about $5 per person - not the most amazing quality food I have ever had but you can%26#39;t beat it for the price if you want a quick, cheap %26amp; cheerful meal.

For non buffet places we always used to go to Dennys, IHOP %26amp; Perkins when I was the same age as your kids - again all are pretty reasonable (average about $7-$10 for a main course if I remember correctly) and offer a good choice of food. To be honest if you go to any of the chain restaurants you will probably think the food is cheap compared to what we would pay for the same type of thing in the UK!

When you are over there remember to look out for the coupon books - they quite often have them in restaurant car parks or just inside the door. These can save you maybe 10%-15% off your meal or kids eat free etc which all adds up.

For cheap food of decent quality and a very varied menu with great takeaway cakes and muffins, Perkins is always a safe bet.

TIP: Buy your water from a Walmart or Pharmacy (can%26#39;t remember the chain name) in bulk for something like 99c for a demijohn. It%26#39;s about $2.99 for a small bottle on Disney property.

There are also some decent chain restaurants just off Disney property without having to travel to I-drive. pretty sure there%26#39;s a perkins there too.

If you want more info anytime... just yell I%26#39;m on your doorstep :))

    BTW definately grab coupon books.

They have some great %26#39;Kids eat free%26#39; deals and 2-for-1 type offers. They%26#39;re free, they%26#39;re everywhere so you can use them for every meal if you want.

TIP Check out your credit card%26#39;s foreign transaction charge. Most are up to 2.75% per transaction. Nationwide BS doesn%26#39;t charge though and have a 10month balance transfer 3 month purchase offer at the moment. Might be worth applying for one to finance your trip?

TIP Always fill in the gratuity amount when paying by credit card. If you leave it blank, an unscrupulous server could add whatever they like to your bill, and you might NOT get it back if you challenge the card company later..

Remember also that the servers are not normally paid like UK and their income is solely from tips, so factor the tip into your meal cost. A good %26#39;guesstimate%26#39; for good service is to double the state tax @7% to give a 12.5-14% tip (figures may have changed). At the same time don%26#39;t accept poor service because you have an English accent !!

The problem is that Brits aren%26#39;t used to tipping and servers sort of relate %26#39;English Accent , no tip, no service%26#39; if you aren%26#39;t careful. At the same time I have deliberately not left a tip at a decent restaurant because of poor service (not poor food), and the waiter followed me outside to demand his tip.

15% of your total food bill before tax, 10% of your bar bill before tax. IF your feel you have received outstanding service....feel free to tip more, please note that if you are not happy with service please speak with a manager, sometimes customers like to think a long wait for their food, cold food or different problems are solely the waitstaff%26#39;s fault...not so. Plus servers HAVE to pay income taxes on 7% of that food bill regardless if you tip or not.

    Packing Tip for Big Shoppers

It seems that many consider shopping a close second to the parks. If you are buying alot and worried about fitting it back into your bags for the trip home,go to Wal-Mart or any home store and get a box of vacume bags. These things are amazing.Fill them (the largest holds a queen sized sheet/comforter set and 2 large pillows),zip them shut and suck the air out of the nozzle (borrow vacume from house keeping). You will be amazed at how much the whole thing shrinks down.In the second largest size,I fit clothes for myself,DH and DD for a week and still could have fit more. They are re-usable too.I would recomend putting the full,pre-shrunk bag in your suitcase and shrinking it.Once the air is out is becomes quite hard and might be a trick to bend into your luggage.Good luck!

    Packing Tip for Big Shoppers

I went to a ';how to pack '; presentation at my woman%26#39;s club and the speaker neatly packed a suitcase and then at the end produced a slightly larger empty suitcase and put her smaller suitcase inside it. She had a big empty suitcase for all her shopping that way- not sure if that is still valuable as a tip with all the luggage restrictions these days , but I thought it was awfully clever. She told us she makes an annual shopping trek to Hong Kong and brings the bigger suitcase home full of bargains.

    Packing Tip for Big Shoppers

Good idea pixie, will keep that in mind if i go a bit too far on the shopping.

thanks will bear that in mind planning on a LOT of shopping this trip

When you only have 15 or 20 Kg luggage weight allowance it becomes a bit irrelevant as you can get 20 kg into a medium size suit case no sweat .

Unless of course you want to fit it all into a weekend case

i know one family that own a villa in florida and when the whole family visit (approx 12 adults) they send all their cases home with UPS . They reckon it works out at 50 dollars per 30kg. Alot cheaper than letting the airlines rip you off at the airport

louth male - I was wondering about doing something similar myself. I know I will have great fun shopping, but have to be mindful of the baggage allowances on the flights, so was wondering about sending some of my goodies home to the UK via mai or courier.

Ive been warned that if I send stuff through the post I could get stung with customs fees in the UK, if we were to use couriers would we have the same problem?

Pixiedust - thats a great tip for saving space, but its the weight thats the biggest problem for me!

hi manda1970 i think now i could be wrong that my friends avoid the custom fees etc because they own a villa in florida and there for have an address in the states. Im nearly sure this is how they avoid paying duty because technically speaking they are coming to ireland on holidays when in fact they are returning after being on hols lol if that makes any sence. Maybe checkout UPS or one of the bigger companies and find out what is involved. Any thing is better than being stung by the greedy airline companies

Hmmmmmm would I have to pay duty on dirty washing with UPS :-)

I could then bring all the shopping on the flight home with me.

Dont think I will mention this to Nikki....... she will do even more shopping, If that%26#39;s possible.

I do what Lulutoo suggests when I go- I pack an empty bag.

As for the UPS thing, I%26#39;d check it out via their website. Last time I tried to post something to the UK from the USA a few years back, it was more than $50 and it was a lot smaller than a suitcase.

I searched and came up with a very similar querry from Oct. 2006. Beginner would like to keep his fingers nimble. any comments on beach tower resorts....thinking about staying there oct 1-4

    beach tower resort

We did not have a good experience at all, but that was 5 years ago. Per their brochure, they were supposedly the newest motel on the beach, but we found it to be very run down. Upon arrival the check in area was very small %26amp; smelly. I was not impressed %26amp; I also had a bad feeling. I wish I had listened to my gut %26amp; left before paying in full. Once we arrived to our room I was shocked at how nasty %26amp; smelly it was. The walls looked as though someone had smeared crisco all around, the mini fridge would not close due to rust %26amp; ice accumulation, the chairs %26amp; table had soda can rings all over them %26amp; there were cigarette ashes in %26amp; around the bathtub. I would not let my 2 year old touch anything %26amp; we immediately left. I lost my deposit, but it was honestly worth loosing . That one mistake taught me a lesson to never pay in full until I%26#39;ve seen the room first. We were in PCB in June %26amp; it still looked the same from the outside. Things may be different now, as i said that was 5 years ago. I would read all of the current reviews here on trip advisor %26amp; go on those. If you decide to book with them, please........see your room before checking in. I don%26#39;t want this to happen to you. Good luck %26amp; have a wonderful trip!!!! Oct is a great time to visit.

thank you for that info sweetgapeach......I dont think I will book there....I have been looking at the new shores of panama....they are having alot of good deals now....plus giving your car gas there and back......looks like a beautiful place

Gapeachy - The Shores of Panama does look awesome. You might want to also check out www.vrbo.com. There are some really good deals. We were able to get an awesome deal on a condo in Sunrise Beach resort.

You%26#39;re welcome Gapeachy!!!! The Shores of Panama was not complete in June, but it was AMAZING from the outside. You can probably get a better deal on vrbo for Shores or any other new condo vs Beach Tower. We stayed at Emerald Beach in June %26amp; loved it. I can%26#39;t remember the vrbo#, but I just checked %26amp; there are great deals for the fall. Good Luck %26amp; have fun!!!!

I will be staying in St. Pete Beach for a wedding in early October, does anyone recommend a good seafood restaurant within 30 minutes from St. Pete Beach. I would like the entrees to be in the $20-30 range.

Can you tell me approximately how long from St. Pete Beach with replies?

    Seafood Restaurant

Snappers is right on Gulf Drive, St Pete Beach and had great sea food. There is a palm tree in front of it%26#39;s sign, so sort of hard to see. Going north, it is on the right side of the street. Great early bird specials, but regular food is wonderful. Sure there others...some down at Passe a Grill... Straight down Gult Blvd. Casual dining.

Salt Rock Grille in Indian Rocks beach...north from St Pete beach about 1/2 hr is one of the best restuarants in the area. They have a web site.

  • One night clean (cheap) hotel request

I need help with a one night stand! We have reservations at the Yacht Club from 12-31-1-7. Our flight arrives on the 30th. There is no way I am paying the high rate of 500.00 a night when our flight doesn%26#39;t even get in until after 4:00 p.m. Does anybody know of a clean hotel close to aiport that we could use. Also, since we are coming in a day before our Disney fun begins, I suppose that we can%26#39;t use the Disney shuttle. If we rent a car for just the night is there a place we can return it at Disneyworld? Thanks for your help!

One night clean (cheap) hotel request

    Hi Calicam

Crowne Plaza Orlando Airport have rooms from $105. They also have a free shuttle bus to and from the airport so you wouldn%26#39;t have to rent a car.

We stayed here for 1 night last time we arrived at MCO, the hotel is clean and quiet, rooms are a good size, there are restaurants opposite if you don%26#39;t want to eat at the hotel

    HTH

One night clean (cheap) hotel request

book a disney budget for abou $100 will this still get u disney transport save on car hire ?

Hi calicam! I stayed at the Hyatt, which is right in the main terminal building! We paid $149 for a room last year, and it was real nice, 2 mins from baggage claim, and about 2 mins in the morning to collect your hire car! Also, the ham and eggs we had for room service was yummy!! Highly recommended.

The Embassy Suites at the airport is great,I also like the Wingate Inn,the Sheraton Suites, the Fairfield Inn and the Country Inn and Suites. There are a few places you can return an Alamo car at Disney and the Downtown Disney hotels all have car rental counters where you can return your car-AVis at the Hilton,Alamo at Best WEstern, etc. And you can use the Disney shuttle whether or not you are staying at Disney-but staying at the airport after along flight can be a more peaceful way to start your vacation.

Thank you so much for your help.

    new hotels?

what is the newest hotel in orlando?any new hotels due to open early next year?

    new hotels?

Probably not the newest but the rosen shingle creek resort and spa is pretty new.

    the worst ride in florida

the worst ride in florida in my opinion was the mummy .Before i went on my hols to florida all my mates give the mummy a big thumbs up. They bigged it up so much so when i did get to go on it it wasnt what i expected .This ride would have been okay if they just kept quite .

    the worst ride in florida

The mummy is certainly not the worst ride, it%26#39;s not as fab as everyone says though either. The worst are Earthquake, Spaceship earth and The Great Movie Ride.

    the worst ride in florida

For me the Worst ride????? it%26#39;s................King Kong, dont think it%26#39;s there anymore???

I love the Great Movie Ride !!

Worst was after being in a queue for over an hour for Men In Black I was so disapponted !!

What a rubbish ride, along with Poseidon.

Posiedon and Twister , what a waste of time .

I love the Mummy, its my fave ride! I also love the great movie ride and earthquake! I hated space ship earth though. Carosel of progress worst thing in Florida!! Not a fan of Terminator either

I-4 at rush hour, followed closely by Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour, which is like a tour of a junk yard. And twice that we%26#39;ve ridden it, parts of the attraction were out of order.

it%26#39;s got to be twister for me! but to be honest i like all of them really!

Carussell of Progress (but it will never go because this was the fave of Disney himself) Walt himself planed it and so it will stay forever I guess... He hadn麓t had the chance to ride it though...

My second vote to Movie Ride and Stitch!

    Stitch%26#39;s great escape

Men in Black was crap cos my gun did not work properly and Mrs scored zillions and I got about 26.

Not impressed do not mind losing ... but very unhappy when faulty equipment is given. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones would not have got past the first reel if they had such disfunctional apparata.

    Distinctly not impressed.

duranango gone.....where now can i get a good steak ?

been over to spb many times and love the durango steakhouse....great steaks at good prices but to my horror its closed, coming over again at xmas and where can i get that great american steak...heard silas%26#39;s is pretty good but expensive..love to know as i%26#39;m sitting here pretty gutted ........st

duranango gone.....where now can i get a good steak ?

Silas%26#39;s is pretty reasonable for the quality of the food estee- see the Durangos post- lots of choice, great story and friendly servers, I always go when I am in St Pete Beach.

duranango gone.....where now can i get a good steak ?

Will you be driving??? If so try the Outback its fantastic!!!

It%26#39;s about a 10 minute drive from St pete, sorry cant remember the addy but someone will.......................

yeah heard about he outback.....think its ozzie themed but its got to be USAD BEEF .THANKS I%26#39;LL LOOK for the website,%26#39; get the location %26amp;give it a try

If you go over Corey causeway and head towards Tyrone Mall , its a turning on the left. OR If you go to Tyrone mall and keep going along that road until you comre to a T Junction, turn right and keep going for quite a way..outback is on the left by a big roundabout.

    Sorry a bit vague LOL

We love Sam Seltzers. Reasonable prices, great steaks, home made breads, and the best house salad dressing around. There is one also near Tyrone Mall - not far from spb. One thing we like about Sams is that it%26#39;s locally owned and operated.

While the food is good at Outback, you can go there anywhere in the U.S. And frankly, it%26#39;s kinda pricey...

    Here is Sams info:

    3500 Tyrone Blvd North

    St.Petersburg, Florida 33710

    1 (727) 381-SAMS (7267)

    Website is www.samseltzers.com

Stay away from SILAS - I wish we%26#39;d have listed to to reviews. We walked in and had a 20 minute wait - when taken to our table, half the restaurant was empty. Steaks and burgers were burnt to the extent that they were crunchy on the outside. Overpriced too!! And we are generally easy to please people, but this was absurb.

found out theres a durango at largo mall....................how far from spb %26amp; is it any good ?

Like you we were disapointed that Durangos on St Petes was closed so went to the one in Largo.

We were disappointed. The place was grubby , the service not too good and food just OK.

    LH Norfolk

The Largo Durangos is now closed and being reopened later under a new name. We still like Codys and Longhorn for inexpensive steaks, however, for a good cut of cow we like Salt Rock Grill on Indian Rocks Beach.

Out back for great steak, regular chain atmosphere. Salt Rock - incredible steak, real lines, great views. Can eat outside if you want, on inland water. They have really good early bird specials.

    Hello,

Going to orlando on the 12th October for 2 weeks with our 7 year old daughter. Just trying to work out our itinery. Does anyone know if the nights when MNSSHP is on, whether the crowd levels during the day are affected like EMH does.

    Thanks very much

    MNSSHP and crowd levels

Hi go on to walt disney site and it tells you what time and what day s its on.We go 6 oct till 3 nov 07 cant wait, we have booked for the14 oct halloween pary, we did it 05 and it was great fun my 3 girls loved it and so did we.we have just done our itinery for 28 nights, god cant wait 2 weeks this saturday, happy holidays angiexx

    MNSSHP and crowd levels

We do not go to Mk on the day we do the party, too strenuous will you will be up till midnight or later with little ones. We always do a water park for 1/2 day or DDD.

We are going on a Wednesday for this party. How busy does it usually get on a weekday evening. I%26#39;ve heard that it used to be NOT crowded and hardly any wait times, but that it%26#39;s getting way busier because they are letting more people into each party. Has anyone been yet this year??? Weekday or weekend...how busy did you find it??? Did you find time to go on most of the rides..or just pick your favorite few to go on?? Sorry for all the questions...just trying to map out our trip. Any info would be great. Thank you!!!

reply traveloverontrio we had no problem doing the rides if fact it was easier, as its not as busy, hope you have agreat party.

I have booked to go on the 11th October. Do most adults dress up, I know that most kids do but was wondering about the adults.

Many adults dress up as well as the kids. We saw alot of families dressed up together.

We just got back from a week visiting all the parks. We attended the very first Not So Scary Halloween Party this year. It rained the entire time and the crowds were a lot bigger than the rest of the week. However, we walked onto just about every ride at every other park (including Magic Kingdom on a separate day) the rest of our stay without any long waits.

  • Edison Beach House

Has anyone stayed in the G suite? How was the view? Would you prefer this over a D or E suite if there were four of you? Thanks!

    Edison Beach House

This is a beautiful property. It has every amenity you could possibly need even down to tupperware for leftover food. The place is spotless and the owner really keeps tabs on everything. Sometimes too much, but I%26#39;d rather have that then teens taking advantage of the property.

We (2) have stayed in C and F units. For 4 of you the two bedroon would be best b/c the space while nicely planned out is limited for any kind of privacy, and I%26#39;m not even sure if they have pull out sleepers. The best view would be from D or E. You can see the pier, straight ahead into the ocean and also Sanibel. From G the view is still amazing for sunsets, but it limits your view to only Sanibel.

Although, no view is bad as long as you%26#39;re beachfront!

    Arie Dam Condos

Has anyone stayed here and is it nice? Close to shopping and restaurants? We have decided on this place OR a complex in Belleair Beach for a trip in Feb and need to make a final decision soon.....before both are taken and I have to start my search all over again!!! Thanks for any info or advice you can give.

    Arie Dam Condos

I sent you a private message

    Arie Dam Condos

Sorry to sound so stupid but where do I go to see the ';private message';????? Needless to say, I am new at this!

Look at the top of the page-the green part. Under My Tripadvisor. You don%26#39;t sound stupid. I%26#39;m no expert at this either.

We have stayed there twice and it is a very nice complex. It is smaller than a lot of the other complexes, only about 16 condos. It is very close to Leatherbacks Restaurant and the Winn Dixie supermarket. We really liked it there. Enjoy yourself!

    Ambrosia House or Ambrosia Too

Any suggestions on which suite to stay in? Going for Christmas with my husband and two dogs. Also my parents want to come, but we figured two suites would be better than the 2BR townhouse for privacy =-)

    Ambrosia House or Ambrosia Too

We have stayed at Ambrosia it is across the street from Amr. too. It realy is no big deal you just need to cross the street for breakfast andif you want to use the heated pool. There is a pool on the side of Ambrosia but it is in the shade and is not heated.

    PJ

    Ambrosia House or Ambrosia Too

The pool at Ambrosia should be renovated and heated by then. Me personlly I would prefer he newer and more comfortable Ambrosia Too. If money is not an issue than take the Treeop Too for privacy and the bottom of it which is the Alligator Room? at the foot of the lap pool. For ultimate privacy it would be the two floor Zeke%26#39;s Retreat wher you can keep th efrench doors in the bedroom open and no one can see you.

Have stayed at both since 1998. I know they don%26#39;t allow dogs in all rooms, so best to check with them ahead of time. Just call Ben or Tina and ask them which rooms permit dogs. That may make your decision for you.

Personally, I prefer the newer Ambrosia Too. It is quieter and the wiring is better. The rooms themselves are all nice, so that isn%26#39;t really a factor. Currently, they are renovating the pool at Ambrosia House and I don%26#39;t know when it is supposed to be finished, but they were jack-hammering it Wednesday.

    sunset wedding

My daughter is getting married in January at Snook%26#39;s restaurant and we%26#39;re planning on staying at the bayside hotel next door. Has anyone been to either of these places? She wants a casual, fun place to celebrate with family and friends. What else can we do in key largo?

    sunset wedding

I am just home from watching the sunset at Snooks! As locals, we really like the sunset from Snooks. It is a fun bar with a good happy hour (2 for 1 drinks and 50¢ wings, shrimp, poppers). It is casual and fun and has nightly live music. They have a small beach (jetty) shared with Bayside Resort, where most folks choose to get married. They haul out a wooden trellis decorated with plastic vines and put plastic chairs out for the wedding attendees. I have seen all kinds of marriages performed there - from a biker (in leathers in 90º temps) wedding to formal gowns and tuxedos. Personally, I don%26#39;t like the quality of the food at Snooks (fine for snacks, but not dinner) after discovering unwashed lettuce in the salad more than once. However, it is convenient to Bayside Resort.

I have never stayed at Bayside Resort, since I live in Key Largo, but, whenever we have guests coming to visit, we book them into Bayside Resort. Have never heard a complaint from our friends. They also have a good sushi (Sushi Nami) restaurant on their property.

What kind of activities are you looking for? Pretty much everything in Key Largo revolves around the water - fishing, snorkling, diving, boating. There are not a lot of late night places and not a club scene like South Beach would offer. However, we are a safe place where I rarely bother to lock my front door or my cars. MIA airport is exactly an hour away as are some great shopping malls.

    7 more days and counting.

Counting down to our time at Anna Maria, I will be sure to tell you how our trip went. Thanks for all your advice. I printed out all the places to go and where to eat, now just anxious to get there. sally

    7 more days and counting.

Alright, only 7 more days, good for you. I read in the Island Sun newspaper that the Bridge Street pier is finally going to open this weekend. Rotten Ralphs is the cafe that is going to open on the pier but I think it is going to take them a few more weeks to move in. If you havent been on this pier make sure you do, it is really nice. Are you staying at the La Costa Condos? I know you will have a great time, it%26#39;s beginning to get a little cooler a night and is very pleasant. Enjoy!

    7 more days and counting.

No, we rented a private house on North Shore Drive. It is walking distance to the Rod and Reel pier or at least looks it. You can see the pier in one of the pictures of the house. We travel with another couple and the house is a little bit more than what we usually spend but it is her birthday so we said why not. 3 beds 2 baths, our own tiny beach right off the back patio, fire pit,the living room is all glass windows and the view is awesome. We won%26#39;t want to leave the house. Now just keep the hurricanes away for us please. Didn%26#39;t like what I saw on tv today. That is awful what happened to some of those houses. We went to Naples in 2004 just after the big hurricane, we couldn%26#39;t even get on Sanibel. The road was closed to the lighthouse. Heard so much about all those sea shells we were disappointed. Thanks for all your help. I%26#39;m sure we will have a wonderful time. sally you said you were going in Oct, will you be there too, will look for a trip advisor backpack.

  • beaches in the area

Hi, I%26#39;m hoping someone on this forum can help me out. I%26#39;ll be in Tampa end of October, and am looking for a good beach in the area to go to. My dad thinks he remembers a nice beach that had trees along the beachline so you could sit in the shade and still be pretty close to the water. Anyone have any idea where this might be? Or any nice, white sand not overly crowded beach in the area? Thanks-

    beaches in the area

Sounds to me like some of the beaches on Anna Maria Island. Coquina Beach, south end of the island, has a lot of trees along the edge. In Occtober, you will practically have it to yourself. AMI is just off Bradenton, about an hour from Tampa.

    beaches in the area

The closest beaches to Tampa are in Pinellas county, just to the West of Tampa. From Clearwater Beach, South to St. Pete Beach.

It sounds like you may be staying in Tampa, and doing side/day trips to the beach. If that is the case, Clearwater Beach will be the closest (depending where in Tampa you start). Also just a little farther is Treasure Island and St. Pete Beach. Clearwater Beach will usually be a little more crowded than the beaches to the South, especially on a weekend.

The beach may have been Howard Park just west of Tarpon Springs. You can see the beach and its trees on Google Earth.

Otherwise there are the beaches at Honeymoon Island and Caladesi Island which are white sand and never crowded.

It may be Sand Key, just across the bridge/south of Clearwater Beach. For years, it was undeveloped and it was a popular beach spot with locals with the Australian Pines. Sand Key Park is now an official Pinellas County Park with paved parking, restrooms - nice but not the same as in the 70s.

It might also have been Ft. DeSoto Park at the south most tip of Pinellas County, also a county park.

    greek restaurants

are there any greek restaurants that have an ocean or intercoastal view. we loved the view at taverna opa in hollywood, but we don%26#39;t care for dancing on tables and smashing dishes.

    any info appreciated.

    thanks

    steph

    greek restaurants

There is a Greek restaurant on the corner of A1A and Commercial, but I found it to be dirty, had a roach leg in my iced tea. Greek Isles is just north of Oakland Park Blvd. on A1A, but no ocean view. Taverna Opa at Oakland Park is on the Intracoastal, it%26#39;s a little quieter than the one in Hollywood.

thanks for the info. so would you suggest taverna opa in fort lauderdale?

    9/14 to 9/17 trip report.

9/14 We started our Key West vacation on the mainland, by going to Billie鈥檚 Swamp tours on the Seminole Indian Reservation... And even though I have been riding in airboats my whole life we had a blast. Continued on to Key West, stopping only to pick up a few Arby鈥檚 sandwiches for the Board Meeting. The normally slow drive down the overseas highway was made even slower by the addition of 10,000 motorcycles.

After a four hour drive down the Keys we checked into the Heron House Court, can鈥檛 really say enough nice things about this place. Large clean rooms, outstanding breakfast, pool and a large hot tub.

Off to the board meeting at Turtle Kraals. The roof top bar is the best place in Key West to watch a sunset and meet new friends. Tim, Bruce, Sarah and Keylimey are some of the best people you would ever want to meet. But I found out that the chairmen of the board is about a foot tall and has feathers. The Group took the meeting to SWB where at Tim鈥檚 suggestion I ate perhaps the best sandwich I鈥檝e ever had. A blacken Maui Maui melt, YUM. I lost my wife for a short bit, but found her taking in the amazing card magic of Frank, sorry I forgot his last name, but I also forgotten how many beers I had at this point too.

9/15 Woke up early to take a long walk around Old Town. For any one who wants to see KW without its makeup this is the way to do it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, however, it鈥檚 easy to lose track of time. Dee said if I went for a walk she鈥檇 be going next time. The rest of the day was filled with a trolley tour, shopping and watching the Gators wax Tennessee at Jack Flat鈥檚. For anyone wanting to watch a game Jack鈥檚 flats is the place. We had big plans for Saturday night, but on the way back to the B%26amp;B I bought a cannonball. And after lugging it back to the room we settle for the Hot Tub and more football.

9/16 This mornings walk was through the cemetery. You could easily spend half a day or more walking around. We grab a self guided tour map and hit the highlights. The rest of the day was spent sailing and snorkeling with the Sebago crew. Thanks PJK for the hint on 2 for 1. We had a delicious dinner at Guy Harvey鈥檚 and I proceeded to do my own Duvall Crawl. Good thing I had my dedicated walker with me. With most of the bikers leaving on Sunday morning we had much smaller crowds. Good for us, maybe bad for KW, but that is why we come during the off season.

9/17 After a few more stops around town for photos we cut out about 1 for our 8+ hour drive. We pick up some tropical foliage, which has now been given a death sentence. But we鈥檒l be back again to replace them, after another fantastic trip to the Keys.

p.s. added a few pics from this trip.

Sounds like a great time gator, thanks for sharing :)

Is there a trick to posting photos?

    Nice report,

Glad you had the chance to meet some of the locals.

    PJ

Well the pictures are posted, and they are so good some are posted 3 times. Can you say Goober Head!

Sounds like you had a fun time. Love the pictures!

Sounds like a great trip! And I%26#39;m glad you liked Heron House Court. We stayed in a jacuzzi side room last Feb. and thought it was wonderful. The staff is so helpful, rooms are big and clean. Its a bit of a walk but most of the time we needed a walk!

Nice report. The guys go nuts on the Arbys don%26#39;t they? I hope you remembered the sauces.

    When you goin%26#39; back?

    Weather

I have a trip planned Oct 3-8. Looking at the 10 day forcast it shows it is going to rain the next ten days. Is this accurate? Is is an island rain where it stops in ten min? Is there any concern for the hurricanes or tropical depressions?

    Thanks

    Weather

Not the first person to be worried about the weather and won%26#39;t be the last. Here%26#39;s my advice for a fellow Michigander..... You can%26#39;t do a damn thing about it, why worry about it?

To answer your questions... Never, NEVER believe a forecast beyond 72 hours. It%26#39;s just too far in advance to be anywhere close to accurate and this goes for hurricanes too. What you%26#39;re worried about is a wild-assed guess. The %26#39;typical%26#39; weather here in early October is about as perfect as you could ask for. The breezes are back. Temps in the mid to upper 80%26#39;s during the day and mid to lower 80%26#39;s at night. Yes, there will likely be rain but it%26#39;ll be a shower or two that lasts for a short time... If you%26#39;re on the street and it rains, consider it a sign from God to refill your drink. The important thing to remember is RELAX.

(To put some thought into hurricanes, this time of year look more towards the Carribean for formations. BTW - Again, the weather people have been bored outta thier gourds the last two years... They%26#39;re starting to go nuts. Even the weather channel has sent thier big gun to the Gulf Coast to cover a minor tropical depression... It%26#39;s a non-event except for the tornadoes that it spawned earlier in it%26#39;s cycle.)

Blue Mountain Beach trip report 9/8-9/14

I delayed writing this because I was trying not to face up to vacation being over. We had such a good time- and we really didn%26#39;t go anywhere other than the beach. More cooking at the condo this year (thanks to other folks- not me!) and yes, pizza delivery TWICE!

Well, OK, once out for lunch to Seaside at Bud and Alley%26#39;s, once out to dinner at D%26amp;K%26#39;s in Grayton Beach and a little bit of shopping and lunch again (Pickle%26#39;s) in Seaside and Grayton Beach.

We love the Zoo Gallery in GB (www.thezoogallery.com)- so many cute t-shirts and other things. That%26#39;s when we stopped at the Red Bar and met some nice folks- wish we had spent more time there when a band was playing. There%26#39;s never enough time on vacation, is there?

The beach was gorgeous, saw very few jellies or seaweed. This was our best year ever for dolphin watching. It is so mesmerizing to watch them so close in to the shore! Kept watch for sharks- didn%26#39;t see any but, as we all know, they are out there somewhere ;-)

DH and our cousin snorkled around in the surf quite a bit, sometimes the water was clear, other times stirred up by the surf- they didn%26#39;t care, they are like big boys out in the water.

Only made it to Blue Orleans one day during lunch for a mimosa- yum! Must add another week to the vacation plans!

    I will post some pictures.

I have always been amazed at how many Texans go there! Just look how many folks who post here are from Texas.

My first trip was in %26#39;79, when I was in college, and I can still remember that sense of wonder, staring at the beach and hearing the surf in the moonlight. No matter how much the area changes, the beach is the thing....

Hey, poodle- you are talking about my neck of the woods. Great times at D%26amp;K%26#39;s. Glad you had such a nice trip. Loved the pictures of the water with the clouds.

We just stayed at the Ocean Palm in Sunny Isles. This was our second visit in as many months. The owner stated the motel will be open through Summer 2008. It looks like construction on the new high rise has fallen victim to the real estate crash like so much of the condo market in South Florida.

Right you are! Sunny Isles has the HIGHEST foreclosure rate in the state of FL.

The boom is busted and the Ocean Palms still stands. Can you give a more thorough description of the hotel including the condition of the property, pool etc and the range of room rates? Many many people ask about it and I have not had time to go there myself.

There is a small Travelodge due north and also the Thunderbird Motel still in their original low-rise condition. All else is new high rise development or construction sites.

I welcome recent visitors to PLEASE post on this thread an honest evaluation of these less expensive properties...

I appreciate your time and help!

    Ocean Palm Motel, Sunny Isles

I have stayed at the Ocean Palm three times now within the last two years. It is truly low budget. I paid $80 which is the weekly rate, and $90 for daily. I hate staying there, but it%26#39;s close and is in walking distance of Haulover beach. This past August, I found a condo to rent which was lovely for $80 per night, what a difference. It was on 15900 Collins Ave, but I needed the car which I then parked in the parking lot for $5 per day. I will do this again next time, it was well worth it. I still miss the fact of not walking to the beach, but I will deal with it. The Thunderbird and Newport are further North and more expensive on the weekends. Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything further. I wish I could be there now.

  • what time for universal HHN

I see halloween horror nights at universal are between 6.30 pm untill 2am. Have purchased advance tickets for 1 night only plus express passes,

Just wondered should we turn up promply or would 7.30 be time enought, Any advice would be very much appreciated,

    what time for universal HHN

I%26#39;ve never been (going on 4th October) but I would go whenever you want to go. Its your holiday so take it at your own speed. Apparently the ques can get very long, but as you have the express passes, it shouldn%26#39;t be too bad for you.

    Have a great time.

    what time for universal HHN

    wnet in 2003, it awesome.

    just go whenever you want.

queues do get long for the houses, but they have people walking around entertaining etc.. and big plasma screens showing trailers of the houses (gets annoying after watching em for the 100 time though)

great night out. my advise defo go see bill and ted if its till on!

We went there last year and got there about 8pm and the lines weren鈥檛 that long. By 9pm the line and had almost doubled. But believe me however long you have to wait it is 100% worth it. Amazing night.

Glad to hear you got the express pass as they are a must for that night. We didn鈥檛 have one last year but so wish we had as the lines were much smaller and moved a lot quicker.

with the express pass you should be okay, the place is always heaving, but start early and you should get round all the houses

With express passes you should be ok and shouldnt have to wait in line more than 15 - 20 minutes, although I hope you havent booked a fri/sat night as these are always the busiest.

for the best effect it is better to arrive once dark, but as you only have one night I would get their early

You know what i have bookd Saturday night [27th oct] to be exact thats why i got the express pases.

Thanks there everyone all your help is greatly appreciated more than you will ever know .

Steve and Niki [sorry if i got the names wrong] when are you going to halloween horror night. JUST WONDERING think you really like this .

Our first night will be on 7th October, then the following thursday, sunday, and the next thursday ( or whenever the frequent fear pass allows ( cannot remember dates) we will be doing about 4 nights over 2 weeks.

    Has anyone used?

    Hi

I%26#39;m looking to book a villa through a company called villatorent.net

has anyone had any experience of them?

Also is it possible to check who owns the villa ?

    Many thanks

    Has anyone used?

    Any help at all???

    Has anyone used?

Sorry can%26#39;t help with villatorent.net. Is it a private owner or agent?

To check out the owner of a home you need to check the appraisers site for the county. Here is a link to the Osceola County Appraisers office www.property-appraiser.org but each county has its own. You go to Record Search and just type in the address and it will show who is the registered owner.

This is a great way to confirm that who you are dealing with is the actual owner of the property - just gives that extra piece of mind when booking directly from them.

    Thank you that really helps!

Would you say that 2 weeks staying at emerald Island 4 bed for 拢1300 June 2008 is a fair price?

any input would be great I%26#39;ve always stayed in Disney Hotels before bit nervous about renting a villa.

That doesnt sound too bad but I am more up to date on townhome prices than the villas. If you want to get some more comparisons get some quotes from other Emerald Island owners. Try www.homeaway.com - it is good as you can reduce the number of matches by certain items at the villa, ie, hot-tub, internet, gamesroom etc.

    Weather in Nov?

What is weather like in november ? Does the disney parks close earlier in November and do they still have the parades in Nov?

    Weather in Nov?

Weather is fine in November about 75f ...lowest rain fall is also November the parks do close earlier you can chack on the websites...and yes they do still have parades...

    Annie

    Weather in Nov?

I think November is the best time for weather - hot enough but not too hot and humid with little or no rain, and the parks are quiet (apart from Thanksgiving). The parades are on all year round but opening times vary so have a look at Disney web site for details.

Holiday Inn at 6890 Estero Blvd in Ft. Myers Beach -- do you like it or not and why? Thanks.

    Opinion please

I can%26#39;t speak to the actual accomaodations (haven%26#39;t been there for at least 4 years) but they easily have the largest, most expansive white, powdery beach in the entire area....that being said, you would still be a few miles (not walking distance) to the ';downtown'; area of FMB. I do remember they have a great tiki bar

    Opinion please

Fort Myers Beach is good, but I think the best beach on the Gulf is Siesta Key, near Sarasota. The sand is like fine sugar and the beach unbelievable with many great places to stay or rent on a weekly/daily basis. A nice change from Fort Myers with its crowds.

You might want to give it a try.

I have read some not so good reviews about Holiday Inn FMB lately. I think you would be better off at the Outrigger. If you can afford it then maybe if you prefer a condo the Gullwing and Pointe Estero are near both of these hotels.

We would only be interested in Fort Myers Beach. I will keep in mind that Siesta Key is nice, but that would be for another trip. Hubby and I like Shell Point golf course just before going over the causeway to Sanibel. Also a course on Sanibel too. How about Best Western in Fort Myers Beach..........any ideas on that one?

    Hello,

We are staying at the ';Caper Beach Club'; in April. We have family that own condos at 2 other condos on FMB. They HIGHLY recommended Caper BClub. We will have a fully equipped condo, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 balconies, etc. on the beach, with in walking distance to mostly eveything!!(That is shopping, Times Square, etc,)

Try this site%26gt;http://www.caperbeach.com/amhome.htm...When are you going? Are you bringing children?

I would vote for the HI over the Outrigger - when we were in FMB in June, the Outrigger seemed dirty and their pool was always packed (it%26#39;s a lot smaller than the one at the Holiday Inn.)

Moedecup, thanks for the tip on Caper, but we will only be in Ft. Myers for 2 nights. Caper requires a week%26#39;s stay. We are doing Ft. Myers Beach (been there before), then Cape Canavaral/Daytona area, then Key West and then back to Ft. Myers.

Your welcome! Just be careful with the Holiday Inn!! Read this post!!

My visit was for: Quality time with family

Booked two rooms for my family at this hotel, for three nights. I knew what type of hotel it was, and the pictures on the website made this hotel look perfect. I%26#39;ve always stayed in Holiday Inns and their other brands due to their overall service and quality for the price. As soon as I walked through to the lobby I thought what a dump. Whilst myself and my Father-in-Law checked with the highly incompetent staff my wife took my daughter to the rest rooms. The restroom report was that my 4 year old daughter refused to use them due to the unclean state they were in. Tired after the drive down from Tarpon Springs I just wanted a room. Hell this is a HI the rooms%26#39;ll be OK. The walk to the room was like walking through a badly bombed Beriut Suburb - and when we got the the room - these baby%26#39;s were small, out dated and in a bad state of repair/disrepair (depends on your angle). I was not going to stay here for three nights as planned. Went to the front desk and explained - the staff didn%26#39;t care and we walked out with a void bill. Later got my AMEX statement through only to find I%26#39;d been charged 150 bucks for one night! Having contacted Holiday Inn%26#39;s Quality Assurance department I got letters of apology and mitigation - yeah and my money back. Apparently the hotel is trying for planning permission to rebuild and is fighting city legislation. Grated if they accept the place is a crap hole, the prices should reflect this, but it doesn%26#39;t excuse retards behind reception. This has seriously dented my trust in the Holiday Inn Brand. I stayed three nights at the Hilton instead. Don%26#39;t believe all the good write ups for this hotel - the authors must have been smoking some illegal substance!

Have a great time wherevever you stay!! Moedecup

We stayed 4 nights at Pink Shell in FMB in July, and loved it. Yes, we had kids, but I didn%26#39;t see alot of unruly kids. We stayed in the Sanibel View and reserved through AAA--they had stay 3 nights and get the 4th free, so was a pretty good deal. Think we paid around 500.00 for 4 nights. Just an idea!

Thanks again Moed. I%26#39;m thinking of Best Western. We don%26#39;t want to spend too much money on this part of the trip because we are paying for 3 nights in Key West and that will run into money.

  • Best Airline to get a deal from Detroit to Orlando

    Hi:

Can anyone suggest the best airline that offers deals cheap flights to Orlando from Detroit or Flint MI?

    Thanks

Best Airline to get a deal from Detroit to Orlando

I would imagine either AirTran http://www.airtran.com/Home.aspx

or Southwest Airlines, esp during their weekly specials.

    (Detroit, not Flint).

Best Airline to get a deal from Detroit to Orlando

    Hello Canadian...

We have had to stop over in Detroit after leaving Wisconsin. I believe it was a hub for United, but I could be wrong. Lately Delta has had the lowest prices for us though but I think they are based out of Ohio and Atlanta.

I like to use Kayak.com and they will compare 3 different sites for you at once to see who has the best prices. Good luck!!

    Disneychicks7

    Hi,

Without a doubt Spirit Airlines from Detroit (Spiritair.com), I ultimately end up with them every trip after checking all the rates, they are always the least expensive. I have also been told that AirTran out of Flint is low as well. On occasion, Northwest has sale fares that rival Spirit, but few and far between. Good Luck!

    Local, neighborhood seafood spots

Hello, all. We%26#39;re visiting again from New Orleans.

Inquiring about casual seafood cafes. I seem to remember reading somewhere about a small, popular restaurant around the corner from a retail seafood outlet. I%26#39;m not sure if it was Joe Patti%26#39;s or someplace else. My recollection is that it was a quiet, laid back, non-tourist spot.

    Did I dream this up?

    Local, neighborhood seafood spots

Nope, you didn%26#39;t dream it up. It%26#39;s Sam%26#39;s Seafood and it is really good and definitely a local hangout. Another laid back one is Marina Oyster Barn right on Bayou Texar.

Another local joint with good greasy burgers and blue plate specials is Jerry%26#39;s Drive In on Cervantes Street (very close to Marina Oyster Barn). Just up the street is one of my favorite places for deli sandwiches - the New Yorker Deli.

    Local, neighborhood seafood spots

Oh, forgot to say that Sam%26#39;s is located almost directly across the street from Joe Patti%26#39;s (on Main Street). And if you go at lunch time during the week, it will be anything but quiet cause it will be full of the downtown business people. Go off hours if you want quiet, but honestly it%26#39;s fun to be there during the lunch rush. It seems almost everyone knows each other.

    Enjoy!!

Crystal Beach trip report - 9/13-9/17

Our family of 6 stayed at Crystal Dunes, in a unit (307) we rented through VRBO.com. The unit was perfect for our family. The owner of the condo was also great to work with. Thanks to TexasCowgirl for the wonderful recommendation!!

Thursday - we arrived too early after driving through the night, so we caught a quick nap in the parking lot while the room was being readied. Luckily, the maid service finished early around 1:30, so we got into the room before we expected. Thursday was a little bit stormy here and there. We didn%26#39;t get a whole lot of time on the beach this day since we were waiting for the rest of the family to arrive. Went to Walmart and stocked up on food and bought a couple pizzas to bake. We got a good deal on $40 beach chairs they were clearing out for $15.

Friday - a pretty rainy day. We got some beach time here and there, in between running back up to the room. LOL. We cooked tacos and stayed in for the night.

Saturday - perfect weather, partly cloudy. We spent all day on the beach. For dinner, we headed out to the Original Waterfront Crab Shack. Dinner was a bit pricey, but pretty good, and we enjoyed eating out on the waterfront. Later, two of us headed over for ice cream (frozen custard) at Shakes. Again, it was pricey ($10 for two), but yummy.

Sunday - perfect weather, no clouds! We again spent all day on the beach. For dinner, we headed to the Hog%26#39;s Breath Saloon. All six of us had the pulled pork sandwich, which was recommended by the waitress. It was enjoyable and pretty reasonable prices.

The first two days, there was considerable wave action because of the weather. The last two days, the water was relatively calm. If you want to find good shells, it%26#39;s possible if you snorkel! My partner found two large scalloped shells the size of softballs. Also found were some sand dollars - one large one the size of a coffee mug, and a couple that were the size of quarters or so.

As far as jellyfish, I saw a few and just stayed away from them when I saw them. A girl on the beach next to us was stung though. We talked to one of the lifeguards who told us to rub dry sand if you are stung, and not use anything cold for the pain. He said to use heat to open the pores, rather than cold which makes it worse. Here and there we felt small stinging sensations, which he told us was from dead jellyfish that had broken up, and was floating in the water undetected. Nothing awful, just felt like pinpricks.

One of our snorkelers was ';attacked'; by some sort of fish though. He got two small scrapes on the back of his leg. Nothing bad, and the lifeguard had mentioned that you should stay within 75 yards of the shore to avoid things like that.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. Everyone in our family really enjoyed the trip and did not want to leave. Thanks to everyone on the forum for their advice!!

Crystal Beach trip report - 9/13-9/17

Sounds like a great time. Thanks for the report.

If anyone wants to see how the beach changed from the end of May to now, look at my second pic and then look at Jay%26#39;s. What a difference in the amount of beach!

Thanks for posting the pics. You should post them here also.

    Great trip report .

Good idea, I didn%26#39;t realize you could post photos that aren%26#39;t attached to a review. The beach nourishment really did make a huge difference!

Glad you had a good time. Liked the looks of your condo. I might try it next time.

Great photos. Enjoyed seeing them and so glad you enjoyed Crystal Beach..... my personal favorite area of Destin!!

Thanks for posting- sounds like a great trip! That is an interesting hint about the jellyfish sting, not one that I have read before. So glad you went to Hog%26#39;s Breath- it can certainly be a lot of fun!

Jay, loved your pictures. Especially the pictures taken in those emerald waters! Curious, what kind of camera did you use? I%26#39;m looking to purchase a new one....

    Oh, Baked...say it ain%26#39;t so....you can%26#39;t be a Cubs fan can you???

My camera is the Sony DSC-W70. In the water I use the SPK-WA case.

A cool tip - Flickr shows the EXIF information associated with any photo, so you can easily see what camera was used. Just look in the ';Additional Info'; section of any photo page. It should show up unless a photographer has decided to strip the info off for some reason. Clicking on the ';More properties'; link will tell you more than you ever wanted to know:

    flickr.com/photo_exif.gne…

I would assume other sites like photobucket/webshots would show the same EXIF info.

  • Mulligans hidden gratuity

The food and the service was not that great. As a visitor to Vero Beach I found this a breach of Etiquette. I%26#39;ve never ate anywhere where the was a PRE-charge for a tip. Tips should be based on how you feel about service and quality of food. I called the manager and asked him to remove the charge and I got more or less told where to stick my opinion.

    Mulligans hidden gratuity

Did they disclose on the menu or somewhere that there was an automatic charge for gratuity? This should be the way it is done, and it shouldn%26#39;t be just added on. Nevertheless, a growing number of restaurants add in the gratuity automatically; its hardly an isolated experience, though most who do this disclose it in some way. If you eat out a bit, it won%26#39;t be the last you see of this. If you went to Walt Disney World, and purchased the dining plan, all the gratuities at the table service restaurants would be added automatically; either 17 or 18% (though this is no secret; I believe they tell you beforehand).

    Mulligans hidden gratuity

Why dont%26#39; they just include it in the advertised price and pay their staff more then. I agree that a tip should be based on how you feel the service was....at least that was the original intent of a tip.

How is one to budget, when all these hidden costs keep popping up? Sounds like another ploy to make something sound better than it is.

Yes i ve been there and had a great experience ,They do add the gratuity if there is 6 or more in the table.....

In Florida City the is a wonderful fruit stand called Robert Is Here. They make the most delicious shakes. The stand also has wonderful homemade ,marmalades pickled veggies, jellies and jams and a lot more. Its worth the stop alone for the shakes.

    http://www.robertishere.com/stand.htm

Not only do es Robert is Here have great jellies, veggie, smoothies etc.

The fresh fruits they have are really cool. Each time we stop, I find a new fruit that I never knew existed. This last time I bought some Monsteria (sp) fruit. Looked like an ear of corn and tasted like banana and vanilla.

The people there really know their stuff, and are happy to help steer you in the right direction.

Stop at Robbie%26#39;s mile marker 77 I think on you way down to Key West it%26#39;s on your left. They have feeding of Tarpon fish for $2.50.

And nice but cheap jewelry. We did the drive in August. Do stop at roberts the fruit stand I think its in Homested. Good Shakes and fruit.

    Enjoy

We were looking forward to milkshakes at Robert Is Here, but when we stopped on Sept.7th, they were closed for clean-up. I don%26#39;t remember how long they were going to be closed, but I think it was for a few weeks. We found several places were closed during the low season.

One place we stopped and loved was Keys Fisheries in Marathon. Watching the sun set over the Gulf with the marina in the foreground was glorious! The food was delicious, the atmosphere casual and fun, and the prices were reasonable. Thank you BuffetGuy for the suggestion.

I founf out that Robert is Here is closed till November 1st.

DoubleB - Glad that one of my suggestions worked out for you ;-)

Too bad for you for about Robert is Here. Cool place to hang out for a little bit.

Family friendly condo on beach with activities for the kids

We will be coming to PC Beach in July 2008 with several families. I am looking for something that has a variaty of things to offer. Does anyone have any suggestions? Definitely a pool and hot tub, but what about things to entertain the kids besides the pool.

I really liked Aqua Vista from what I have read about it. Does anyone know if it is close to any attractions?

Family friendly condo on beach with activities for the kids

Have you looked at Splash? We love it!!

Family friendly condo on beach with activities for the kids

Wow.......... That place does look awesome.

    Thanks for the information.

Check out Majestic Beach Towers. We were there this summer.

Im not sure when but Emerald beach is supposed to be adding a lazy river etc to their condos as well

I second the recommendation for Splash - however, read the many reviews about the resort posted on TA. It seems like some people (like me and our family) loved it, some hated it.

When we come back to PCB, we%26#39;re coming back to Splash.

I%26#39;d be happy to answer any questions you have specifically on the resort.

you might want to check out the new Tide Water resort. It looks huge.

Oh i also forgot you might also like Boardwalk beach resort the y have a kids club during the summer and they have an oceanfront zero entry pool hot tub and kids section pool bar etc looks very nice

So , is it that this all has something to do with a division of assets because of a divorce? I don%26#39;t remember that mentioned in previous posts on this subject..

lulutoo, it has nothing to do with a divorce. The City of Key West raised the rent so high he has to close the doors.

Then what exactly is the reference in the press release quoted above asking for permisiion to ';liquidate the assets of the Waterfront Market? '; I am not an attorney, but it sounds like a reference to a divorce proceeding to me... why else would the';permission '; of a court be required?

lulutoo, the article does mention divorce proceedings. That is news to me, I thought the place was closing because of the higher rent.

Might be some combination of the two issues. Could be that because the city raised the rent so high, it%26#39;s forcing him to close and sell the assets. In an ongoing divorce proceeding, typically there is a bar on selling assets to keep one side or the other from hiding things or value. So it would require him to get the court order to liquidate the business asssets because he%26#39;s forced to close the business since the city raised the rent.

Whew, I need a beer now...

I was one of the lucky ones to receive a reply to my e-mail to Mayor Murry McPherson. In it he blamed part of the situation on the pending divorce. )He said a few other things, too) I did not feel it was right for me to pass that information along at the time.
