Westin Diplomat Resort-Is the location good for relaxation?

We booked this hotel for 2 nights for relaxation and 2 nights at a South Beach hotel for weekend party. What%26#39;s the hotel location like?

Excellent, but expensive for relaxing. There is some activities there...you are several blocks S of the start of the Hollywood B%26#39;Walk...and then quite a walk N on that B%26#39;Walk to all the French Canadian restaurants and shops along the B%26#39;Walk.

The hotel has a series of docks %26amp; overpriced shopping and the Nikki Marina, but the Wal MArt just over the Hallandale Bld ICW bridge is a lot cheaper...as is Diplomat Mall.....and Aventura Mall is just a few blocks N of the Gulfstream Race Track and Casino...( about 2 miles from the hotel)...ie...S on A1A stay in R lane to go over the ICW Bridge at Hallandale Beach Blvd. Go W to US RT one and make L. ( Actually, Gulfstream is on the corner of Hallandale Beach Blvd %26amp; US Route one.

About 3/4 mile S after Gulfstream is Aventura Mall.....biggest indoor mall on the East coast of the USA ( Dillards, JC Penny, Sears, Lord %26amp; Yaylor, Burdines/Macys, Bloomingdales, and most important, a Cheesecake Factory %26amp; Grand Lux Cafe.....very faily priced food service....esp when you note the prices in the diplomat.

IMO....Flannigan Big Daddy has great food....corner of US Rt ! %26amp; HBB...and right across the street from a Tony Romas....also good...but Big Daddys is IMO better.

Also, check www.watertaxi.com They have a weekly taxi service that starts in Ft Lauderdale, stops at the WESTIN Diplomat Landings on its way to Miami Bayside.

And take the free shuttle to the Diplomat CC to gat an idea of your bearings..

Check the Hallandale TA places, as most info above is in Hallandale. ( Gulfstream, Flannigans, Hollywood Mardi Gras Casino)

BTW......the casinos mentioned above are new, and not run by the Seminoles. They are state controlled, have class A machines, require 85% or better payback, and no smoking....

I made an error on getting to the aventura mall. You TURN S onto US Route One ... thats a left off of Hallandale beach blvd.....and drive past the Gulfstream Race Track on your left, then drive past the Target/Wholefoods shopping complex, and you will see the turn off to the aventura mall in about 4 blocks ( it is on the left side of ( East) of US Route one.

An easy way to get to SoBe from the Westin is to simply drive S on A1A and go past Hallandale, then into Dade Cty, will be Golden Beach- careful, police like to ticket... continue S through Sunny Isles, Bal Harbour, and as the street unbers go down you will begin to hit the SoBe area.

The county line between Dade ( where SoBe is), and Browrd is at the end on Browards Hallandale. Since you are staying in the Westin, you are about 1/2 mile from Hallandale, and Hallandale is only about one mile to that border.

Once in Miami Dade, the streets will start at about NE 213th. To see how many blocks you need to drive S, you will need the street number of where you are staying. Its probably about 200 blocks or less.
