Hi...

I am finding it quite difficult to find somewhere to stay without really knowing the island. We have a 9 month year old baby so it would be great to be able to walk to closeby restaurants and supermarkets with the stroller. I am scared of booking somewhere where there is nothing nearby. At the sametime I dont want to be right in the middle of a busy area. So what we are really looking for is the following:

close to restaurants and supermarket

quiet accomodation

nice pool

garden

near to beach but not necessarily beachfront

nice beach but preferably private and quiet

bbq and cooking facilities

separate bedroom from kitchen area

Can anyone help?

Have not stayed there, but you might want to look at Anna Maria Beach Place. It is across the street from the beach, a small place and quiet area, but definitely walkable to a Publix grocery, a drugstore, and a number of boutiques. Don%26#39;t forget, however, that the free trolley goes all over the island, so shopping is easy and fun.

The Publix Supermarket is located at 37th and right across the street is the entrance to the Sandy Pointe condo complex. You would be conveniently located for the market, restaurants are in walking distance as well as the beach. The condos are on the bay side., have pool, tennis courts etc. they are located in or adjacent a nature preserve. But there are many other choices for you to select from.

If you are interested, check the rental sites such www.vrbo.com, gulfcoastrentals.com, vacationrentals.com or homeaway.com. If you visit the Anna Maria Island Chamber website at www.annamariaislandchamber.org you will find realtors specializing in vacation rentals.

PS to the above:

Anna Maria Island consists of three townships: Anna Maria City in the north, Holmes Beach in the center and Bradenton Beach at the south. The Publix Supermarket is located in Holmes Beach at 37th and some restaurants are in walking distance from that. Since you want to shop with the baby in the stroller, I would suggest you concentrate your search in Holmes Beach from may 30th to 45th Streets. There is free trolley that goes up and down Gulf Bvld from Bradentown Beach to Anna Maria City which will be able to accommodate the stroller. Wherever you rent on the island you will never be far from the beach and there is simply not a bad area on the whole island. The beaches are never overcrwoded. Hope that helps. What time of the year are you looking for??

The Publix store is the only food markt on the island but you have a lot of little shops around. (we are on 18th street 1800 gulf drive)

Breakfast; Lunch and Dinner nearby...

As Mimi said, there is no bad area on the island and you will enjoy whatever you choose!!

emsky, You have made a great choice in Anna Maria Island and I know you are going to love it.

AMI is a seven mile long island and consist of three small towns, Anna Maria, Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach. Unless you know the area well, you will not know whic ine you are in without seeing the signs, they run together.

There really is no part of the island that is too busy or not part of the island that there is nothing near by.

There are so many choices for accomodations but here are ones I know well.

If you are looking for a condo, click on my name and send me a private message, one of our fellow posters here has an upscale, beautiful condo, right on the beach and I will be glad to give you all the information.

If you like a small mom and pop type of place, I like Bungalow Beach Resort, Cedar Cove, Trades Winds, Tortuga Inn, Queens Gate and Linger Longer Resort. Start with these and if you need further infor, let us know.

I think you`ve got the message that no where is far from anywhere on AMI.

Re accomodation - have a look at Coconuts. OK furnishings, not luxurious but right on the beach with shared pool. Bermuda Bay is nice too.

If want something up market then annamaria.com has some really high quality places.
