If you are staying on Disney property and are not intending to leave Disney property except for the occassional foray into the hinterlands, you do not need a car. Taxis will be fine.

If, however, you are staying anywhere else or want to see much else, rent a car.

We are basically heading to a park each day - see my other post - Proposed Itinery 2 jan -14 jan. We are staying off disney property...

Was thinking for us (fam of 4), Mears would be a better option - won%26#39;t get lost, no petrol/gas bills, no park entrance fee.....

Renting a compact car for a week is about the equivilant to 3-4 taxi trips in terms of cost.

If you are staying off site (not on a disney property) reanting a car is a much better option. It gives you flexability espcially in dining when you want to go to ther better places to eat.

Thx for that - had a look at Alamo - 28 days Midsize SUV $1 150.95 - $288 per week???

For 4 of you you dont NEED an SUV.You could easily make do with a compact and cut the price by less than half.I would not depend on taxis.Apart from the expense you have less control of your time. With such a long stay planned you could do alot more with a car.Where are you staying?

I know you didn%26#39;t ask this, but have you considered combining some Taxi use (where needed) with use of the local public bus service? Depending on the size of your group, and where you will be based, this may work out to be a cost effective alternative to car rental.

www.golynx.com for full details of routes and schedules. Fares are $1.50 for a one-way trip (transfers free)

$3.50 for a day ticket

(buy the above from the driver, exact fare, dollar bills and change only)

$12.00 for a week (from certain outlets as listed on the website).

We are staying at Hawthorn Suites Seaworld (Westwood Boulevard)...

We are considering all options - we gotta rent a car to get to Orlando %26amp; we are not sure what the drop-off fee will be.....

Thx again for all the details

From your previous postings I have gathered the following:

Lynx bus number 50 from opposite Sea World for $1.50. You can take the Lynx to Sea World and get a transfer ticket for the 50.

Mears shuttle approx $14.

Try Magic City phone number 407 345 5555 approx $6 return.

More detail:

Lynx Bus 8 runs down I-Drive to SeaWorld and beyond every 10-15 minutes. Board one, pay $1-50 exact fare and ask for a ';transfer';.

Alight at Sea World, wait, board bus 50 (every 30 minutes), use your ';transfer'; ticket to ';pay'; for this ride.

Alight at DownTown Disney if that%26#39;s where you want to go to. Otherwise, alight at Transportation and Ticket Center, and then use Disney%26#39;s free transport (boat, monorail, bus) to get to whichever attraction you%26#39;re heading for.

And Vice Versa.

Bus 50 runs 7 days a week every 30 minutes to the same schedule. First one away from SeaWorld is at 5.40 am and the last one back from the TTC is at 11.01 pm (and 11.19 pm at DownTown). Bus 8 runs earlier and later.

Visit www.golynx.com for more info on the local buses, maps and schedules, how to get to Shopping and other destinations, all for $1.50 a trip.

Better still, pop over to the ABC Supermarket on Carrier Drive and buy a weekly ticket for $12.00 Saves looking for change. Buy in advance, your 7 days starts the first day you use it. (buy enough for all three weeks if you like).

Thx once again, truly appreciated

A wise travel guru advises that you should always hire a cab or take public transportation when in a foreign country (regardless of how great a driver you are, or think you are). Your unfamilarity with the traffic, traffic laws, the vehicles (who put my steering wheel on the wrong side of the car), street signage, speed limits, and surroundings, set you up for lots of problems. If you are staying outside the park, then you have saved some money on accomodations, shift that savings to transportation (whether public, taxi, or hotel shuttle --- yes many hotels provide free or inexpensive shuttle service).

The last thing you want to happen is to wind up in jail or getting a ticket because you failed to obey some silly traffic rule that you weren%26#39;t aware of.

Thx but my dad is quite use to driving in the States - goes every second year on business.

Not driving in another Country is usually the right advise, but Orlando was built by tourism for tourism,so the roads are pretty user friendly.Again,I dont like to be at the mercy of anyone when it comes to my time and transportation.Having keys in your pocket for an afternoon break or a quick shopping trip is well worth the cost.
