things to do for the un-typical tourist

Hi,

I%26#39;m heading down to Boca Raton this weekend to visit a friend who has just been relocated there for his job. We%26#39;re in our mid-twenties so are a bit old for the spring break/college scene, and too young and un-wealthy for the fine-dining/shopping scene.

My friend loves indie films and live music. Are there any independent theaters in Boca? And is there such a thing as a music %26#39;scene%26#39; for rock bands in the area?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I%26#39;d love suggestions for this weekend, but more importantly for him in the coming months. Is there a young professional set in Boca?

Thanks!

I don%26#39;t know about the film situation there in Boca, but under the sponsorship of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival organization ( FLIFF) and generally using the facilities of the unique Cinema Paradiso in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, there are many activities year round relating to indie films:

I%26#39;m pretty sure FLIFF has an auxilary group that does fund raising and supports the Festival that may offer some social opportunities for your friend- though I can%26#39;t be more specific.

Ft. Lauderdale would not be a bad drive down from Boca- less than half an hour on I-95.

Thanks for the heads-up about the Film fest!

Definitely make a stop at Mizner Park. They have outdoor concerts and fantastic restaurants.

dartgirl5,

There are no concerts in Mizner this weekend but there%26#39;s an Irish Pub there called Dubliner%26#39;s that has decent bands Thurs, Fri, and Sat. For what your looking for, I suggest heading north to Atlantic Ave. or South to Riverwalk in Fort Lauderdale.
