traffic in January

We are planning a trip to sanibel Jan 19th..we have been to sanibel in the past but always off season May or October. I was wondering what the traffic/people population is like in January?

traffic in January

Heavier traffic than May with all the seasonal residents on the islands. Just stay off Periwinkle Way during %26#39;prime time%26#39; [about 3-6 PM when all the day workers leave and you%26#39;ll be fine.

Restaurants will be crowded and only a few keep longer hours. Most still close pretty early. Make reservations where they%26#39;re taken or try for call ahead seating where accepted. Small places like Red Fish Blue Fish, Sunset Grill, Mad Hatter and Captiva House reservations are a must and I%26#39;d call well in advance.

Beaches will be more crowded than in May but not by a whole lot.

mizzeym, I%26#39;ve found traffic is the heaviest in March and April...

Having just returned back from Sanibel one observation: It seems to me that the lights are timed to expedite traffic heading out to the islands from the airport so you should give yourself at least ten more minutes to get back to the airport than it took you to get out.

I made the trip three times over the week and I seemed to hit every red light heading east each time. I guess the local authorities want us to stay as long as possible!
