Can you walk anywhere ?

I%26#39;m booked into the ';Sheraton Vistana Resort at Lake Buena Vista'; for next year%26#39;s summer holiday. It%26#39;s really close to Downtown Disney and I%26#39;m hoping to walk into town in the evenings with our 2 kids (12 %26amp; 10 years old). Having looked at it in Google Earth it looks like there%26#39;s no way to cross the 8+ lane highway between us and it !! Is it possible to walk there (we%26#39;re english and like walking, plus it means that I can have a drink) ?

Can you walk anywhere ?

The Sheraton Vistana Resort that I%26#39;m familar with is 3 miles from Downtown Disney. And you really can%26#39;t walk to much of anything. Are you sure about your facts?

Can you walk anywhere ?

Welcome to the site.

Cannot help you with your question, but im sure others on this site will.

Do your homework and ask a lot of questions and read some of the past posts and you will not go far wrong.

Like you, my wife loves walking and strolls up to the front gate and back each day. About five miles.

She loves walking and is very fit. We went to Orlando a couple of years back in the summer and it was hard going. The humidity is a killer. There was a store no more than a 5-minute walk away from our hotel and we use to argue who was going to go each night. It really was that harsh.

You will get loads of good advice on here. However, I will argue with anyone that claims the following is not the best advice going.

Drink Water and plenty of it. Not coke, shakes or juice, Water.

My two boys were the same age as yours and they were not permitted to leave the room in the morning until they drank water and we were topping them up all day.

There are so many horror stories about dehydration in Florida and it鈥檚 usually us brits.

Sorry for going on a bit. But I feel strongly about this.

Hi Edf,

Can%26#39;t help you with your location question, however just to add form to Vinnie%26#39;s comments, two years ago I was one of the Brits who suffered dehydration (thought I was drinking plenty - ice old pepsis!!) and ended up in hospital for two days at the knock-down discount rate (as I was British!) of 拢2,500!! Water as Vinny says is the best however at the hospital they advised the Gatorade type drinks for my kids too.

It seems like a great idea walking around in Florida but really you get loads of excercise at the parks with evenly spaced ';stop offs in nice air-conditioned rest places/shops etc. So if you must take care and stick to later in the afternoon/early evening and be adamant with your kids re their fluid intake!

Ed,

If you want to take your life in your hands and that of your family it is not impossible. You would have to walk under the I4 and I do not recall a footpath there, negotiate I think 4 entrances to the I4 then in through the gate at LBV and it is not too bad a stroll. Remember that no one is looking for pedestrians, and I think the Police would not be too chuffed either.

One bit of advice you will get here, is that Florida is not a evening drinking holiday. Driving from Down Town Disney to the Vistana can be a nightmare sober.

This is the holday where you take the hit if you are the driver, or get your wife to share or get a cab. It would not be too deadly from DTD to the Vistana.

Buy beer fill yor fridge and enjoy these by the Vistanas pools or on your balcony. It is a lovely resort.

Sadly for you, it is not practical to walk from Vistana to DTD. In fact, it%26#39;s not practical to walk anywhere in Florida as everything is so spaced out. There%26#39;s also nowhere near Vistana where you can go for %26#39;a drink%26#39; as Gordon says, it%26#39;s not that sort of place.

In Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island, there are a couple of beer stands, $4-5.50 for a cup of Bud, and there are restaurants where you can sit outside and have a drink like Bongos and House of Blues. You will need to get a taxi which will be around $8-10 each way.

hi edfdave,

like you i too like to walk. i have only ever stayed on i-drive and can only make a comment about it, so this maybe will not help.

we have a car hire, but we also like to walk, because we stay on the i-drive we can walk up and down to lots of places to eat and drink plus plenty of things to do as well and believe me you will see plenty of brits walking there.

pam

You are correct-you really can%26#39;t walk from the Vistana Resort to Downtown Disney. It is too long a distance(and I live in New York and walk several miles every day) and there are no sidewalks and dangerous highways. You can have a drink, just take a taxi.

You can walk it in fact. There is a sidewalk for most (but not all, if I remember right) of the way - at least all the way from where Vineland meets 535.

You need to go northwards along 535 until you cross under I4 and then turn left along Hotel Plaza Blvrd to DTD.

Probably about 2 miles in all.

Theres no footpath under the I4.

I%26#39;m sorry, Gordon, but, I think you are wrong. Unless they%26#39;ve removed it since I was last there a couple of years ago (and I seroiusly doubt that), there IS a sidewalk alongside SR535 as it passes under I4. And crosswalks for pedestrians to get across the sliproads and a light control at Hotel Plaza Blvd. So.....at least from Vineland Rd, it IS walkable, quite safely.
