I know j. Buffett is a controversial topic here but....

I agree with most of the posts here that JB%26#39;s restaurant on duval is not worth more than one visit. But in the spirit of getting ready for fantasy fest I went to madison square garden for the Buffett show on thursday. It was a great time. Seeing several thousand people milling around MSG in KW attire was awesome! I even unloaded some fantasy fest beads! Its starting to feel a bit more like fall here in northern NJ and I am not looking forward to closing the pool and bringing my banana plants inside :( The good news is that Fantasy Fest is getting closer and I can%26#39;t wait to get back to KW. Lets keep this thread going until the first round at the BULL!

oops I meant to post this in the FF roll call thread!

I know j. Buffett is a controversial topic here but....

It%26#39;s all just opinion, go there if you want to, nobody will slight you for it. I went when I was new here and actually enjoyed it, had my $10 cheeseburger in Paradise, loved the stuff on the walls and was treated well. I have not been back in years but it%26#39;s more because I%26#39;ve found places that are a better value and I can park near. If I were a visitor and walking Duval I%26#39;d stop in, even though I%26#39;m not a JB fanatic, just to say I did so. As long as you%26#39;re there please go into Fast Buck Freddy%26#39;s next door, it%26#39;s a departmenty type store that has unbelievably interesting inventory.

I don%26#39;t think that JB is particularly controversial in Key West. He owns property there and is occasionally spotted. I%26#39;ve spoked with a few locals who don%26#39;t like the guy, but I tend to write it off as envy and jealousy of a guy who has made a very successful career off of 2 hit songs 30 years ago. Whatever you think of the guy, he is not just some dumb old hippy. He is a very astute businessman and has made a fortune on his restaurant chains, a new casino in Louisiana, records and concert appearances. I%26#39;m not his biggest fan, but I do admire his accomplishments. The lazy hippy persona is just an act to be sure.

Anyonr that visits Key West and explores will understand what the Locals and frequent visitors think about JB%26#39;s restaurant. There are just to many better options.

JB did Key West and those who love it the largest service and diservice... He made it famous. A lot of things have changed since those days but ya gotta admit... Great music.... He actually was able to wrap an idea of a lifestyle into his music.

honkeytonkdog dont worry the roll call to fantasy fest will be going strong until the day i leave on the plane i cant wait only 32 more days and counting. we are at 144 posts

I get the feeling Jimmy Buffett is to Key West what John Denver is (was) to Colorado.....

I agree with KWT. Its hard not to go to the restaurant, especially if you are a fan. Locals who have been around a while have reasons for not liking JB. Personally I thing he is a jerk and somewhat of a pompus a$$. He was before he was famous too. There are lots of stories about him but I doubt you will find a local who will tell them. We all got kinda sick of him. I do not think he made Key West famous. I think its the other way around......KW made him famous but thats just my .02.

LOL Arnie. We feel the same about Elvis here....30 years after he died!

Don%26#39;t know Arnie... I%26#39;d say it was Capt Tony who made JB famous and then he did the same for KW. A lot (and I mean A LOT) of folks would never have heard of KW without JB%26#39;s songs. As for being a pompous jerk... don%26#39;t know... Never met him personally.
