Ormond by the sea

Hi all, complete noob to this site so sorry if this has already been asked before somewhere. We are looking to visit in Aug 2008 and have spied a very nice house rental in Ormonfd by the sea. Have been to Florida several times but never on this coast. I have heard this is a pretty residential type place which is fine but is there anything in this area apart from houses - the odd shopping outlet or anything? as it would be nice to be able to walk to somewhere. I have an exact address, it%26#39;s up near the North Peninsula State Rec area.

Also, is there sufficient to keep two teens (well one is 22 but a slow developer!) entertained. We usually do beach in morning then stuff for them in afternoon/evening (providing they are up by then)

thanks in anticipation

Dave

You are right about the house being in a residental area. You will be about 3 blocks from the ocean. Walking to any shops will not be an options if my memory serves me correctly. There is a grocery store and a few stores in Ormond by the sea. A couple of T shirt shops, but nothing really in walking distance.

If you choose to stay there a car is a must if you plan to do any sight seeing. I understand about the ';if they are up by then'; as I have two sons around the same age!!!!

There are some outlet malls in St. Augustine which is about a 45 minute drive north, very scenic if you take A1A. Lots of things to see and some quaint shops right in the older part. It is worth the time for a day trip.

SInce you are going in August there may be some good deals on condos right on the beach if you are interested in that option.

We vacationed in Ormond by the Sea as a child and as an adult we have moved on down the beach to Daytona Beach Shores. We have recently moved to Florida, near the Kennedy Space Center.

The ocean on this side is very different as is the beach. The futher you get down towards Daytona the beach is hard packed sand. Up around Ormond it has a redish tint to it. The beach can be very wide at lowtide, perfect for laying out, walking and doing beach activities. The ocean can be calm one day and huge waves the next. That time of year expect afternoon showers.

I hope this helps some. I%26#39;d be glad to answer any more questions either through replies or a PM. Just ask!!!!

Ormond by the sea

Ormond by the Sea is a small mostly residential area located on the peninsula. All properties are close to the ocean. The peninsula is about 1/2 mile wide there so that is the furtherest you could be from the ocean. There is a county beach park, a county park with trails to walk, and 2 state parks for fishing, etc. There are parks on the river for river viewing. It is 10 miles or less to flager Beach which is a marvelous area. You would be near Highbridge and the Loop, which is an old undeveloped area that is being conserved and the Highbridge bridge is a drawbridge that is fund watching.

You can walk to quaint restaurants and the Ormond Mall, depending on how far north you are.

If you are looking for excitement you would probably want to go downtown Daytona and stay.

If you are going to stay in Ormond-By-the-Sea, make sure that you stop by Betty%26#39;s Restaurant. It%26#39;s right off of A1A. It%26#39;s such a great place.
