Hello :)
I was wondering if there are some restaurants (preferrably cheap good ones, of course!) that I should visit in Orlando? I will be around the major attractions areas.. so that%26#39;s.. around Magic Kingdom, Sea World, Universal studios, Downtown Orlando... etc.
Is there some sort of food that%26#39;s famous in Orlando? For example, Chicago%26#39;s famous for their deep-dish pizza, right? is there any in Orlando/Florida?
Please let me know :) thanks!
ps. has anyone been to The Carving Station (all you can eat)? If anyone did, how was it? and how much was it?

Restaurants in Orlando
The only culinary things Orlando is really famous for are greasy fatty foods and big quantity over quality buffets, and perhaps lots of steak. These are not indigenous to the Orlando area, though. You will find an ample supply of these places in the touristy areas, particularly on International Drive (I-Drive), Lake Buena Vista area, etc. Hardly something to be proud of, though there are some local steak places around.
The one thing that maybe you could say is something ';local'; to the general Central Florida area is rock shrimp. The place to get them is Dixie Crossroads Seafood Restaurant, but that%26#39;s about 40 miles away in Titusville. They do, however, have a Dixie Crossroads Shrimphouse on I-Drive at Festival Bay Mall, which is a worthy imitation. The description of them is shrimp that taste like lobster; I had a dish with them at Bola Ristorante.
A few things that are generally found in Florida and perhaps not as much farther north are key lime pie, cuban sandwiches, and conch fritters (send a personal message to seminolegirl106 to find out about conch fritters).
There is no pizza that is particular to Orlando, though a good chain in the touristy area is Flippers. Uno and Giordanos do Chicago pizza in Orlando, though.
I don%26#39;t know about Downtown Orlando being a touristy attraction. I would visit Park Ave in Winter Park instead.
Forgot about eating ';alligator'; at Black Hammock. Not close to the touristy area, though. And of course there is Florida Orange Juice.
I once had a cuban sandwich at Raleigh Durham airport ;-)
For DT orlando Eddie and Semigirl are your people, I will give you recs in the tourist area.
In the Universal area, for cheap fun eats try Margaritaville.
In DTDisney, try Earl of Sandwich, Wolfgang Puck Express or for table service Wolfgang Puck Cafe.
If we know where you are staying exactly, we can tailor suggestions to that location perhaps.
On I-Drive I would recommend Sweet Tomatoes - salad, soup %26amp; pasta buffet. Really good (gets you away from the normal tourist %26#39;fries with everything%26#39; places) and really cheap - I think our last visit was about $25 for the two of us including soft drinks.
Also agree in Downtown Disney that Wolfgang Puck express is great - does lovely take out sandwiches too.
We like Olive Garden. Never had a bad meal there or Red Lobster, just love the Coconut Bay Shrimps.
Golden Coral is a good buffet.
Thanks everyone!
Hi, If you are a bit adventurous, try Roys, its a fab hawaiian seafood restaurant on I. Drive. I recommend trying the Mahi Mahi, dont ask what it is till you have tried it, it%26#39;s scrummy, and the butterfish is lovely
Thanks ShellyP27 :)
I heard about Roys! I am contemplating on whether or not to go there because it%26#39;s not near the places that I wanted to visit. But if I do end up going, I will let you know how I liked it!
Don%26#39;t be afraid of knowing Mahi Mahi.
It%26#39;s what we on the Atlantic Coast call Dolphin fish, but it%26#39;s not a dolphin/porpoise like Flipper, it%26#39;s a fish like Flipper eats! and it%26#39;s good. Haven%26#39;t eaten at that Roy%26#39;s but have at the one in Waikiki.
